Ford Motor Company has recalled more than 14,000 trucks in Canada after identifying a steering defect that could increase the risk of crashes.
The recall, announced through Transport Canada, affects 14,125 vehicles from the 2020 model year, including several F-Series Super Duty and Chassis Cab models.
The Defect
According to the notice, “on certain vehicles, the upper steering shaft could separate and cause a loss of steering control.” A sudden loss of steering would dramatically raise the risk of an accident, officials warned.
The issue applies to the following trucks:
- Ford F-250 Chassis Cab (2020)
- Ford F-250 Super Duty (2020)
- Ford F-350 Chassis Cab (2020)
- Ford F-350 Super Duty (2020)
- Ford F-450 Chassis Cab (2020)
- Ford F-450 Super Duty (2020)

Transport Canada emphasized that while no incidents linked to this defect have been reported so far, the potential failure of the steering shaft makes prompt inspection essential. Drivers are advised not to ignore recall notices and to schedule service appointments as soon as possible.
Ford Recalls More Than 22,000 F-150 Pickup Trucks in Canada Over Axle Defect
Ford Motor Co. is recalling 22,664 F-150 pickup trucks in Canada due to faulty rear axle hub bolts that could cause a loss of power to the wheels and increase the risk of a crash, according to a Transport Canada notice.
The defect, which affects 2023, 2024 and 2025 model year trucks equipped with the Trailer Tow Max Duty optional package, may result in broken bolts that wear down axle shaft splines.
‘Officials warn this can lead to vehicles losing power while in motion or rolling away if parked without the parking brake engaged .
Expansion of Previous Recall
This latest action, listed as recall number 25S82, expands on a prior recall (23S65; Transport Canada recall no. 2023-705) issued in 2023, which covered earlier 2021–2023 F-150 models with the same axle issue.
In total, the defect is linked to a broader recall of approximately 103,000 F-150 trucks in the United States, where similar problems have been reported .
Previous Issues With Electric F-150s
The recall comes months after Ford recalled 11,409 F-150 Lightning electric trucks in Canada due to steering wheel control malfunctions, highlighting ongoing safety concerns with the automaker’s popular pickup line .
What Owners Should Do
Ford says it will contact affected owners directly by mail with instructions. Dealerships will inspect the vehicle and, if required, repair or replace the part at no cost.
