October 6, 2025 – Toyota Canada is recalling more than 32,700 vehicles due to a rearview camera defect that could prevent the image from displaying properly, increasing the risk of a crash, according to a Transport Canada safety notice.
The recall affects 32,733 light trucks and SUVs equipped with 14-inch multimedia displays, including Toyota Sequoia models from 2023–2025 and Toyota Tundra and Tundra Hybrid models from 2022-2025.
The Safety Issue
Under certain conditions, the rearview camera image may fail to appear or display incorrectly when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111 requires all vehicles to show a clear image from the rearview camera to ensure adequate visibility while backing up.
In its recall notice, Transport Canada stated:
“A rearview camera image that doesn’t display correctly could reduce a driver’s ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash.”
Toyota identified the issue as a software-related defect affecting the display unit, not the camera hardware itself.
The Fix
Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail and advised to visit their local Toyota dealership for a free software update to correct the issue.

The NHTSA issued a similar warning in the United States, noting that the defect could also lead to electrical compressor failure, which in turn could disable defroster and defogger systems.
